Belgium's Billions of Comrades, the most recent winners of the Concours Circuit competition, generate a noise that openly flirts with rock and electronica, cutting dense, asymmetric structures from which their instruments organic sounds merge with those of the Tenori-On (the sequencer favoured by the likes of Bjork and Emilie Simon). Their songs hit hard; the direct and energetic compositions are lifted by a voice, that evokes comparison to Robert Smith and Luke Jenner of the Rapture.
Emerging from the Brussels DIY scene, the four comrades have sought creative partners driven by the same sincerity that guided the creation of their debut album. Gilles Mortiaux (Joy As A Toy / Attica) was entrusted with helming production, while the talents of illustrator Gabrielle Fabry were conscripted for the record's art work. The album is released on a young independent label, Black Basset Records, that is developing a reputation for curating underground, aesthetically discerning output. GRAIN is only available on vinyl and via download.
